THE Launceston Branch of Amnesty International UK enjoyed their ‘best ever’ coffee morning at the Central Methodist Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 4.
Held between 10am and midday, 86 people turned up.
Joint secretary of the branch Jan Parsons, who runs it alongside her husband Deri, said: “It went really well, it was our best ever, we had 86 come through the door. We raised £230 through donations and a stall of cakes and bits and bobs.
“We hold this event in the Central Methodist hall on the first Tuesday in February every year. My husband and I have done it for the last 14 years.”
Amongst the items on sale included scarves, toiletries, jewellery and books.
Jan said: “All of the items sold well and the cake stall always does well.”
Jan was particularly pleased with the interest shown.
She continued: “We had lots of information about what Amnesty do, raising awareness of the issues. This time there was a lot of people reading it, which I’ve never seen as much of before. All the Amnesty team thought there was something different about it this time, although none of us are sure what that was. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.
“I’d like to thank the people of Launceston for their continued support, we’re really grateful. We have quite a few events each year and Launceston are very good at supporting us.”
The next event, a talk, will be held in Launceston Central Methodist Church hall on Saturday, March 14 at 7pm.
