DELABOLE Carnival Committee have declared their 2009 Carnival Week a success, despite the foul weather on a few of the days.

The opening day saw prolonged rain but still drew large crowds, with the Cornish Wurzels performing live on stage in the evening.

The other events such as the football, quiz and bingo were well attended with the pasty lunch experiencing its biggest crowds ever.

The Edwin Hamlyn Memorial Motorcycle Ride saw evening sunshine, with 40 bikes travelling through Tintagel, Boscastle and down the Allen Valley to Polzeath and back.

There was a packed to capacity marquee thanks to Johnny Cowling and he got everyone dancing, many in welly boots.

Friday evening was the Beer festival with Cornish beers and ciders on offer and there was music from Delta Skelter in the marquee.

On Saturday, Ian McNiece from ITV's Doc Martin crowned the Delabole Carnival Royalty Groups. He then watched the carnival procession and judged the 'Most Entertaining Item in the Procession', which was won by the Delagrease float by Delabole Alcohol Appreciation Society. He presented a trophy to them later in the evening.

Heavy showers did not deter the crowds from viewing the precession, which included floats, walking entries and many types of vehicles following two shire horses, Bob and Bridie.

The Samba Sol Samba Band from North Devon entertained outside the carnival marquee while they all returned to the playing field.

The Committee are already planning for next year, which will be the tenth birthday of the carnival since it's revival in 2001.
