AWARDS of appreciation were presented to six people at Launceston’s mayor choosing ceremony last week.

Mayor Cllr Brian Hogan presented awards of appreciation to Mrs Liz Beare, Miss Vera Ellacott, Sue and David Issleib, the Rev Mary Williamson and Malcolm Wright at Launceston Town Hall on Thursday, May 12.

Mrs Beare received an award to recognise her time and effort given to the town through her work with the Cubs and Beavers over many years.

Miss Ellacott was recognised for her work and support to St Thomas Church and for her involvement with a range of other groups in Launceston.

She said on accepting her award: “I love the town and support it all I can.”

Sue and David Issleib of …hazard clothing were recognised for their involvement with the Chamber of Commerce and their help in organising events for the town, and also with their involvement in fundraising for the town’s Christmas lights.

The Rev Mary Williamson was also given an award of appreciation in recognition of her work and support for the community — individuals and organisations — over the years.

Malcolm Wright was recognised for his involvement in many varied groups, including the Guild of Bellringers, Launceston U3A and the Charles Causley Trust, and Cllr Hogan commented on Mr Wright’s ‘hard work to ensure the Charles Causley Festival takes place and promotes arts and culture in the town’.

Mr Wright said he felt ‘very honoured and proud’ to receive the award.
