LAUNCESTON lady Cym Downing has been named one of the most extraordinary retired people in the UK, having scooped a prize for her achievements in community work during the regional finals of UK retirement housebuilder McCarthy & Stone's 'National Retirement Awards'.

Cym battled stiff competition from fellow nominees to be announced as the South West regional champion in the category designed to honour those who make a real difference in their neighbourhoods and local community.
