AN AUTHOR, who has recently moved to Bude, is looking forward to lapping up the Cornish countryside and coastline for further inspiration, following the successful publication of her first novel, Casey’s Online Diary, with two more books in the pipeline.
Johanna Jackson, known to most as Jo, is a first-time-published author, who recently moved to Bude with her husband.
Her first published novel, Casey’s Online Diary, has been described by its author as being a ‘romantic fiction, which is slightly raunchy with a spiritual element to it’.
The novel, although not based on her own life story, includes snippets of people Jo has met over the years through her fictional characters, as well as some real experiences, mixed with a dose of imagination.
Jo said: “I wrote it with a view to creating a group of friends around Casey, who, like her, could be any of our own friends, whilst also experiencing things that can happen to any one of us.
“It was also really important to me to keep that side of the storyline believable and not to plunge into sordid depths. I am quite spiritual myself, so there is also a little spiritual influence within the storyline.”
Casey’s Online Diary follows the story of the young-at-heart Casey, who in her own mind is a twenty-something female, but comes to the eventual realisation that she has in fact reached her thirties whilst still unmarried.
With good friends around her, Casey is busy enjoying single life and the attentions of more than one man, meaning she certainly leads a more than interesting life.
Jo is enjoying settling into the area, meeting new people and taking full advantage of the nearby coastal path, enjoying ‘spectacular views along this wonderful coastline’.
Having come from Andover in Hampshire, and, prior to that, Newbury in Berkshire, Bude is a welcome change for the couple and Jo has said that they ‘already love living here’.
She hopes to gain further inspiration from her new home, and is sure to be at her writing desk a lot in the future, as it seems Casey’s Online Diary was a walk in the park for Jo to write.
To self-publish Casey’s Online Diary, Jo decided, after some research, to use New Generation Publishing, producing the novel in hardback, paperback and eBook formats. The book can be purchased throughout the world, including Waterstones, WH Smiths, Amazon and Barnes and Noble for the USA.
More recently, Jo has been in talks with Bude’s Spencer Thorn Bookshop, who have agreed to stock the book.
