BUDE'S Food Assembly has picked up the award for 'Best Food Initiative' at the BBC Food and Farming Awards.

Dubbed the 'Oscars of the Food World', The Food Assembly received the Best British Food Initiative title for bringing communities together to support local food producers, and for its far-reaching benefits around Britain.

Bude's Food Assembly, with more than 400 members, enables people to buy directly off farmers and local foodmakers, and was congratulated on its innovative platform that is changing the way we eat.

Every week Food Assembly customers in Bude can order food online from their local Assembly before picking it up at a weekly popup market. All the food comes from within 20 miles of the area.

Presenter of BBC Radio 4's The Food Programme and founder of the awards Sheila Dillon said: "We really wanted to find out who the food heroes were in their neighbourhoods — anyone, any organisation, that through food was making life in Britain better."

Bude's Food Assembly organiser is Paul Sousek, who runs his sustainable, organic farm entirely on renewable energy with near zero use of fossil fuels.
