A BRAVE lady has raised over £800 for Macmillan Cancer Support after having all her hair cut off at a hairdressers in Holsworthy.

Liz Graham, from Ashwater, took on a sponsored head shave in memory of a friend on Friday, August 26.

Liz said: “I took on the head shave because I have known quite a few people who have gone through chemo and some who have lost their battle with cancer.

“I did this in memory of Geoff Penn, who was a good friend of mine who didn’t win his battle against cancer.”

Liz has received sponsorship and donations from the public, and adding this to the donations she has also received through the ‘Brave the Shave’ website, the total currently stands at around £850 so far.

When asked whether her new shorter hairstyle felt strange, Liz said: “No actually, it’s quite nice. It means I don’t have to worry about bed hair in the morning anyway.”

Local hairdresser Alison Marshall, from Amberella’s hairdressers in Holsworthy, helped Liz achieve the new short hairstyle for charity.

Liz said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Alison Marshall from Amberella’s for cutting my hair and to all those who have donated and sponsored me. Macmillan do such good work and it is a really worthwhile cause.

“I also took on the charity head shave because I wanted to make the point about how you look. It really doesn’t matter, it is just hair, and for those going through chemo or who have lost their hair for whatever reason I wanted to share that message.”

There is still time to donate to increase Liz’s total for ‘Brave the Shave’, to help visit the website www.bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/liz-graham
