IN midweek Saltash, in the top six in the Premier Division and likely to finish higher at the end of the season, are a strong side who didn't let Holsworthy settle. Played before a substantial crowd, many of whom had made the lengthy trek from South Cornwall, Saltash were always in command, writes Alistair Clements.

After ten minutes or so Holsworthy 'keeper Dean Chidley was brought into action with a shot played through a ruck of players, then having to react well to save at an attacker's feet. Saltash went ahead on 17 minutes when Chidley was lobbed by Paul Madden, they then had a serious shout for a penalty turned down on 25 minutes but not long after Chidley palmed a shot upwards only for Marc Thorne to capitalise upon it and score.

Shortly before half time the ball bobbled in the area and the resultant shot from Marc Thorne meant that Saltash went in 3-0 to the good.

Just after half time Lee Rundle, trying to avoid a cross, could not avoid deflecting the ball into his own net for Saltash's fourth goal.

Late on Alan Clarke sustained a nasty knee injury resulting in his being stretchered off and having to be taken to hospital by ambulance. Only this late, almost at full time, did Holsworthy have a serious chance when Mike Landricombe had a useful shot well taken by the visiting 'keeper. This ended the proceedings, a really disappointing result albeit against a useful opposition.
