POLICE are appealing for information following a fire at Holsworthy Cattle Market, which is believed to be arson related.

Two fire brigade appliances from Holsworthy and Hatherleigh with Watch Commander Darren Allcorn in charge were sent to the cattle market at Under Lane, Holsworthy, just after 1am on Monday. The control centre had received a call stating that there was a fire in one of the out buildings.

On arrival crews found there was smoke issuing from the building. The fire involved approximately four bales of hay in a building used as a cattle shed.

The hay was severely damaged by the fire, however there was no damage to the building. Officers used two breathing apparatus sets and one hose reel to tackle the blaze.

A police spokesman said arson was suspected and officers are appealing for anyone with any information relating to the incident to contact them on 08452 777444, quoting log reference number 56/060409. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
