SEVERAL members of the Holsworthy Army Cadet Force (ACF) enjoyed a free ‘slap up’ meal at the new Brewers Fayre in Bideford thanks to some kind words from a parent.
Eight army cadet NCOs (young leaders) and two instructors, were invited to the free meal.
This was all thanks to Sarah Hughes, mother of cadet serjeant Ella Hughes, who nominated Detachment Commander 2Lt Jim Harvey for a free meal.
In her nomination she said: “I would like to nominate Jim Harvey leader of our local army cadets. He puts in a huge amount of time and effort into the cadets, which does so much to help youngsters develop into young adults to be proud of.”
The nomination was accepted and 2Lt Harvey said he was surprised to have received the invitation for a free, three course meal for ten people.
2Lt Harvey invited eight NCOs to join him as recognition of their commitment, hard work and leadership within the detachment.
He said: “I was very humbled by Sarah’s kind words and was happy to share the meal with some of the young people who put so much effort into being Army Cadets. The biggest reward for a cadet leader is to see them flourish and develop.
“Everything that happens at Holsworthy detachment is down to all members pulling together as one big team no matter what the challenge.”
Holsworthy ACF is now recruiting, if anyone aged 12 years and up would like to get involved contact 2Lt Jim Harvey by email at [email protected] or view the detachment open page on Facebook by searching for ‘Holsworthy ACF’.
