THE people of Holsworthy weren’t going to let the cold weather lessen their enjoyment of this year’s carnival.

There was an incredible turn out on Saturday, November 16, as approximately 5,000 spectators filled the streets to see what creative floats the 50 or so entrants from various local groups and organisations had created — and they were not disappointed.

The entrants ‘exceeded expectations’ once again with such creative float displays as ‘Down Memory Lane’ by Katie Bolt, Courtenay Bolt, Jemma Young, Alisha Osman and Millie Dennis; alongside Bertie and Zoe Wonnacott, Jo and Lily Bater and Sophie King all dressed as the much beloved characters in The Wizard of Oz.

Following the successful night carnival committee member Nigel Kenneally said: “The Holsworthy Carnival is one of the highlights of the Holsworthy social calendar.

“The entrants this year once again exceeded expectations and provided much enjoyment to the crowds who gathered to see it in record numbers despite the cold weather.

“The carnival committee would just like to pass on their heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers and all the walkers and floats who made this year’s carnival truly memorable.”

It is estimated the carnival made £800 which will be reinvested to ensure the carnival can continue for years to come.
