THE Post has been given a glimpse into a new Hollywood film, after it was spotted filming on Sandymouth beach, near Bude, last week, writes Rosie Cripps.

Dave Cross, from Bude, was given permission to photograph the new film after hearing it was coming to the area, and got in touch with the Post to share his images.

The film, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, will star Lily James, alongside Penelope Wilton, Jessica Brown Findlay and Matthew Goode — all of whom played unforgettable roles in the hit ITV drama series, Downton Abbey.

The film is an adaptation of the book, and will be directed by Mike Newell, who has previously directed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), the Awakening (1980), and approximately 75 other films, several of which are of great notoriety.

Filming is thought to have started on Friday, May 5 in Devon, and the cast and crew are working in various locations, which included Sandymouth on Wednesday, May 10.

Other locations reportedly include Saunton Sands, Clovelly and Bideford as well as Morwenstow.

Lily James has had over 22 film and television appearances since her career began. Her most famous roles include playing the main role in the 2015 adaptation of Cinderella, as well as Lady Rose in ITV’s Downton Abbey, and Natasha Rostova in the 2016 television series, War and Peace.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society tells the tale of a Guernsey book club, established during the Second World War in the Channel Islands. Juliet Ashton, played by Lily James, is drawn to the club and is given an insight into the members’ experience of Nazi occupied Guernsey.

An idea for a book attracts Juliet further into their lives, and she develops friendships with each of the islanders. The film has been described as ‘a beautiful story of love, friendship and the sadness of friends lost’.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society is expected to be released in 2018.
