THE last of the summer's agricultural events, but by no means the least, the annual Holsworthy and Stratton Agricultural Association responded to the high standards set at Launceston and Camelford with a show of real quality on Thursday, August 25.

Feverishly anticipated by locals, the shows represent an opportunity not only for those in the agricultural industry to showcase their achievements, but for communities to come together and revel in an atmosphere that best encapsulates the area in which its held.

It was fitting then, to hear early in the morning, one man refer to 'Holsworthy's big heart' — a theme apparent throughout the day.

A?cool and sunny morning welcomed show-goers to the grounds, which had remained firm and in good condition despite the previous day's downpour. This in stark contrast to last year, when areas of the field were so muddy as to be dubbed 'like pea soup'.

Rain clouds had become more prominent in the sky as the morning carried on, and after some brief showers the heavens opened. For a while the rain was torrential, pummeling the showground over lunch. Not to be outdone however, people emerged from their shelter when the rain gradually started to subside to carry on with the day's offerings.

A wide variety of trade stalls catered for many tastes — both culinary and commercially. Local businesses comprising estate and holiday agents, insurance and machinery companies, home improvements and much more were in attendance alongside a multitude of food and drink stalls offering refreshments.
