WITH the bare 11 players Bude travelled to Bath on Saturday where they hoped to improve on the previous week's performance. With much better communication, Bude were organised from the off and their passing was much sharper and quicker.

The Horn sisters, Sam and Emily, created space on the wings and Di Old, Robyn Pengilly and Leanne Stanbury had things covered in the middle. Briony Varcoe soon scored the opener with an impressive reverse stick flick into the corner.

In defence Pam Johns, Miranda Pomeroy and Kirsty Heslop marked the three high players well breaking down the majority of their attacks. However, when Bath did break through 'keeper Jo Timmins was there to clear any shots.

Accompanying Briony up front was Tammy Snowsill, whose powerful strike increased Bude's lead. The home side didn't let their heads drop and when they broke were very quick. Before half time, Bath had scored from a short corner.

Starting the second half strong, Briony, struggling with an injury to her hand, increased Bude's lead further during a short corner in the first five minutes. But again the home side came back strong and physical and narrowed the score to 3-2.

Bude's passing and movement was good in patches but not consistent enough. Bath, encouraged by their side-line supporters, used their possession wisely and scored two goals in fairly quick succession.

A goal down and with aches and bruises to contend with, Bude were determined not to lose. They had a few near misses before a Bath foul gave Bude a penalty flick in the final couple of minutes. Tammy stepped up and expertly lifted it into the right hand corner.

Bude face Falmouth this Saturday for their final league match of the season when they hope to end on a high and with three more points on the board.
