WORK has started on ten new affordable homes to 'meet the needs of local people' in Bradworthy. The £992,000 scheme, which will see the new homes built in the village at Tuckers Park, is the brainchild of Bradworthy Community Land Trust (CLT), set up by residents to oversee the provision of affordable homes and other community assets in the local area. The project, which is being delivered for the land trust by development company Aster Homes, will feature four one-bedroom flats and six two and three-bedroom houses. The scheme is also being supported by Torridge District Council and the Wessex CLT Project and has attracted funding from the Homes and Communities Agency, which invested £435,000 in the project. Torridge District Council has invested an additional £50,000 in the project. Work on the new homes got under way with a specially-arranged turf cutting ceremony, which saw members of the trust donning hard hats to dig the first footings.
