ONCE again the Bude Jazz Festival was a great success, running over the four days from August 30, to September 2.

This year the festival was concentrated in the centre of town using seven main venues all within walking distance of each other and this proved to be very successful.

It resulted in a good light-hearted atmosphere as jazz fans moved around to sample the many bands on offer, more than 40 over the four days.

As in recent years, the overall festival sponsorship was by St Austell Brewery and the organising committee expressed its gratitude for their continued support.

The festival started with a street parade on Tuesday morning, which included a traditional brolly parade. Prizes were given to the best children’s and adults brollies and these were sponsored by the Bude & Stratton Post.

The parade also featured presentations to the winners of the window dressing competition, which this year was won by the Cornwall Hospice shop.

This was sponsored by Sainsbury’s and staff from the store were there to present the prize.

Free concerts took place at the Castle Bandstand on Tuesday and Thursday in glorious weather with large numbers sitting on chairs and on the grass. These concerts were sponsored by Dairy Crest at Davidstow.

The festival organising committee expressed thanks to all its local supporters, and also advertisers, hotels and B&Bs.

Organisers are looking forward to arranging another festival with the same excellent atmosphere next year, when the dates planned are August 29, to September 1.
