The Teletubbies, Flinstones and surfers in women’s swimmers were among the weird and wonderful entries at this year’s Tintagel Carnival wheelbarrow races.
The event, which took place in sunshine on Saturday, saw spectactors line the village streets for the races.
The under 12s were first to take to the track — Mayfair car park — performing tasks as they ran — eating jelly, apple bobbing and drinking lemonade, followed by a complete circuit at full speed. The race was won by Oliver and Beau and the best fancy dress wheelbarrow by Bo and Kip as the Flintstones.
The under 17s’ race along Fore Street was won by Logan and Harvey, followed closely by Joe and Tyler.
The ultimate race of the evening, the over 18s, boasted strong entries, with ten teams jostling for best starting position at Tintagel Visitors’ Centre.
The teams each had to complete the route, including refreshment stops at the Tintagel Arms, the Cornishman, Wootons Hotel, the old Country Club car park, the Malt House and finally the King Arthur Arms with a final dash to the finish at Trevena Square.
The men’s race was won by Kyle Flew and Danny Rundle, followed by Adam and Oli, and third place went to Garvin and Malcolm. The best fancy dress wheelbarrow prize was won by Charlie and Jay in their ladies’ swimming costumes.
