Launceston and District Friends of Cancer Research UK held a charity event on December 8.

Johnny Cowling performed a ‘Christmas Concert’ to raise money for Cancer Research.

The event was held at Launceston Town Hall, which was beautifully lit up with Christmas lights and chandeliers. It cost £15 for entry which went towards the charity profits. There was a bar supplying wine, beer and cider for everyone and a huge table full of raffle prizes. Each table was full of people of all ages ready for the night ahead.

First on stage was Maureen, who helped organise the event and a representative from Cancer Research. They took to the stage to thank everyone for coming and to say thanks to the organisers who had put on the event as well as Johnny Cowling for supplying the entertainment. Next, Johnny took to the stage. He performed a variety of sing-along Christmas songs as well as his comedy show, which was hilarious.

Halfway through the show, we were served hot Ginsters pasties to eat during the raffle. The raffle saw 40 individual prizes to be won as well as two larger prizes available by auction. Johnny read out each number and one by one somebody came up to collect their prize. After the table was clear, there was an auction; a trip in a horse and carriage and a stay away at a B&B in Minions, these were auctioned at a much larger price, both almost reaching £200.

For the final part of the evening, Johnny had the entire audience singing The Twelve Days of Christmas, giving different areas of the room a specific number to sing.

As the evening ended, it was clear that everyone who attended had thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had been very generous towards the charity.
