THE parish council of St-Giles-on-the-Heath with Northcott Hamlet has been successful in securing an Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Almost £10,000 has been awarded along with funds from a community grant for new affordable housing recently been completed in the village.

The application process was complex, but was ably administrated by parish clerk Adele Jones, who was supported by the group development worker from Torridge Voluntary Services Jo Manley.

The council applied for the funds after villagers said the existing equipment was not suitable for the older children. A consultation event was held and villagers were invited to attend and be involved in the selection of the play equipment.

Council chairman Ken Hamlyn said: “These new items of equipment are an upgrade from the previous, I hope the children of the village have many years of fun playing in our park.”
