A YOUNG woman from Launceston is warning others after being approached by a driver, who repeatedly told her to get into his car.
On the evening of Monday, April 8, Jade McCartney from Launceston was walking home from her babysitting job when she noticed a car slowly driving alongside her. When the car began flashing its lights, she ’shrugged it off’, thinking the driver had mistaken her for someone else. However, the car then pulled up beside her, and the driver wound down the window, telling Jade to get into his car multiple times, before driving away as Jade ran home.
Jade has described the driver as a male, with a strong accent, and the car being a black or dark blue BMW 5 Series. She reported the incident to the police, and is now warning others walking alone at night to be cautious. She said: "I just want others to be cautious about being out late at night around here! I wouldn’t be able to cope knowing someone was taken or hurt and I didn’t say anything about it!"
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police are aware of reports of a woman being approached by a man in a car who asked her to get into the vehicle.
"The incident was reported to have taken place on Gardia Terrace, Launceston on Monday, April 8 at around 10.45pm."
