Devon and Cornwall Police have now provided information on why Fore Street in Liskeard was sealed off by officers and members of the public interviewed for information this morning.
They also say that two 29-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a violent incident last night.
They say in their official statement: "Police were called at 10.30pm on Wednesday 30 June to Fore Street, Liskeard, following reports of an altercation.
"It was reported that a 29-year-old man has sustained a suspected stab wound to his side. He received medical treatment at the scene and was later taken to hospital where he remains with serious injuries.
"Following initial enquiries and a search of the area, two men, aged 29, from Liskeard have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in police custody at this time.
"Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing at this time."
