A SPATE of vandalism has hit Bude.

Facilities manager for Bude-Stratton Town Council, Steve Hayes, said that vandalism has been experienced at locations such as the Castle and the Parkhouse Centre, as well as the public disabled toilets at Crooklets more recently.

Acting town clerk for the town council, Keith Cornwell, said: “Sadly there has been some vandalism in recent months to properties owned and maintained by Bude-Stratton Town Council, most recently to the disabled toilets at Crooklets, which unfortunately had its lock broken.

“Other incidents are beginning to affect the council and its daily business, including frequent vandalism to the Bencoolen Play Park and to flower beds across the town, also graffiti around the Parkhouse Centre and within all four public toilets in Bude. There have also been a couple of incidents where there have been attempts to set small fires in or next to council owned properties.”

Bude-Stratton Town Council has reported the more serious incidents to the police and has now introduced a reporting process to capture and report all incidents to 101.

Mr Cornwell continued: “We will be working with both the police and the wider community in efforts to control and hopefully resolve this problem. It would be appreciated if anyone with any information on these crimes contacts the police. At this time, Bude-Stratton Town Council does not have individual costings for repairs for these incidents.”
