Firefighters from the Post area had one of the busiest evenings of the year over the weekend, as they were called to multiple incidents on Saturday, night. Fires occurred in Bude, Boscastle and Laneast Downs as well as multiple moor fires.

At around 8pm on Saturday, fire crews from Bude and Holsworthy were dispatched and confirmed that three huts were alight at Summerleaze beach in Bude.

The huts were destroyed in the fire, and are currently under investigation for suspected arson. The huts, which are owned by the town council are rented out by members of the public for different amounts, depending their size. Residents of the town were shocked on social media when the fires were reported.

Later that evening, appliances were called to a fire on Tintagel Road in Boscastle. Four appliances from Delabole, Wadebridge, Bodmin and Bude were in attendance.

Flames tore through the bungalow. The fire caused a partial roof collapse and left significant damage to the interior and exterior of the building.

A spokesperson for the fire and rescue service said: “Crews were fighting the fire and trying to stop spread to neighbouring properties and extinguish the fire.”

One person was treated by ambulance service for smoke inhalation.

Two appliances remained on site and investigations were carried out the following day.

Investigations are ongoing to find the the cause of this fire.

Later that evening, while crews were still tackling these fires, crews from Launceston, Delabole and Callington were scrambled to a number of large moorland fires.

The first moor incident occurred just before 11pm on Saturday, on Bodmin Moor, close to Brown Willy.

Fire crews from Bodmin and Launceston were mobilised to tackle the blaze which was over a mile long. Another fire was then reported by members of the public at Laneast Downs, shortly after midnight.

At the time of the incident a Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire crews from Launceston, Delabole and Callington are in attendance at a gorse fire, near to the A395 at Laneast Downs.

“Firefighters are fighting the fire, which is spread across about thirty hectares.”

Bude Community Fire Station posted on their Facebook page how each of the crews worked together to provide sufficient support for the various areas.

They said: “Moments after returning home from Boscastle, a crew from was then mobilised to Launceston Community Fire Station to provide cover in the Launceston area whilst their crews dealt with an area of approximately 30 hectares of gorse on fire in the Laneast area. The crew from Bude arrived home at approximately 6am.

“Thank you to Holsworthy Fire Station for covering Bude whilst both our crews were committed to other incidents.”
