A LAUNCESTON mum has issued a plea for youngsters to avoid walking by themselves after her son was mugged on Dunheved Road last week.

Sabrina Langdale’s 13-year-old son, who does not want to be named, was attacked between 4.30pm and 5pm on Wednesday, March 6.

Describing the incident, Sabrina said: “He’d been in the Co-op in town (Broad Street) to get a burger and was on Dunheved Road on the way home when he was taken out from behind, pushed to the ground and money taken out of his pockets. And before he’d turned around the attacker had gone.

“When he came home he was very distraught, upset and shaken up and at the minute he doesn’t want to go out on his own.

“To be attacking a child is just scraping the barrel. I think there’s a young adult male with a grey hoody, who has been acting suspiciously. Just so people know he’s of medium height and a medium build.”

When asked how he’s been since, Sabrina said: “He’s getting back to normal, but it’s in the back of his mind and is still a bit worried about going out on his own.

“I’ve called the police and logged it with them, they were meant to come yesterday (Thursday, March 7) and they’re coming on Saturday (March 9) to take a statement, but they have rung to see how he is.”

Sabrina wants younger and vulnerable people to make sure they keep safe.

She said: “I heard an 80-year-old was attacked in the town recently but whether it’s related or not I don’t know.

“I just urge people not to go out on their own and stay in groups. I think he was targeted because he was by himself!”

If anyone has any information about this incident call 101 and speak to Devon and Cornwall police.
