FIRE crews were called at 12.52pm on July 10 following an incident at Killatree Farm, in the Burnards House area of Holsworthy.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Three appliances attended to extinguish the fire affecting three acres of cut hay, which were destroyed by fire, and provided casualty care to a man with severe injuries in the field. Police and ambulance colleagues also attended the incident.”

The police were contacted by the fire service at around 1.10pm.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “It is reported that a man was in cardiac arrest at the scene.

“Despite the best efforts of those in attendance a man in his 80s was declared deceased at the scene.”

Next of kin have been informed of this incident and police are not currently treating this death as suspicious.

A file is to be prepared for the coroner.
