A HIGE fire ripped through a barn near Tregadillett on Christmas Eve.

At its height crews from Bodmin to Bude were tackling the blaze. Flames engulfed the building, that was packed full of various farm machines, wood and cylinders.

At 1.45pm on Christmas Eve, the critical control centre received a number of emergency calls reporting an agricultural fire.

Initially, two appliances from Launceston were mobilised. On arrival, the crews confirmed smoke issuing and requested assistance from a further three appliances and a water carrier. Following this, appliances from Bodmin, Callington and Delabole were mobilised with a water carrier from Liskeard

Shortly after, further assistance was requested and appliances from Bude and Liskeard attended. 

Crews reported an agricultural building measuring approximately 30 metres by 20 metres was fully engulfed in fire.

In total, seven appliances, four officers, one water carrier, two operational support vehicles, one incident command unit, one environmental support vehicle and a welfare unit assisted.

At 5.30pm firefighters were continuing to use hose reels to fight the fire and by 8.46pm the incident was beginning to scale down, with only two appliances left on scene overnight.

By 8.55am on Christmas Day one appliance from Looe had been in attendance for most of the night, monitoring for hotspots and damping down. They were relieved by a crew from Bodmin Fire Station and a whole time officer attended that morning to reassess the incident.
