THE inaugural meeting of Bude Labour on November 9 saw a turnout of more than 35 people from the community.
Adrian Jones chaired the meeting, with support from North Cornwall constituency secretary, John Whitby, who stood as the Labour candidate at the General Election in May.
Supporters ranging from 15 years old to 70 were united by a range of aspirations on how the first Bude Labour group would organise campaigns and meetings.
Discussions ranged from cuts to the NHS that Bude Labour says will have a major impact on health care across the county, the Corbyn effect, policy, single issue campaigns and how a group of local Labour party members can have an impact on the Bude community.
Many supporters had been Labour Party members all their lives, many had stepped away from the party during the Blair government and the decision to go to war against Iraq and many had joined in support of the narrative Jeremy Corbyn introduced in the run-up to the Labour Party leadership contest.
Some had never been involved in a political party but said they felt Bude needed a strong voice of opposition to the Conservative Government’s cuts in public services and family tax credits.
The group is to meet again on December 7 at a venue to be confirmed.
