AN avid runner from Lifton will be swapping his running shoes for a bicycle next month to raise money for his village community centre.

Having been unable to compete in the London Marathon for the first time in eight years, Kevin Marshall (pictured right )will be taking to the streets of London and surrounding Surrey countryside to cycle The Prudential Ride London — Surrey 100 for Lifton Community Centre on August 2.

This will be a challenging 100 miles, which starts in the Olympic stadium, Stratford, and finishes near Buckingham Palace. The route also incorporates the famous Box Hill in Surrey, which the Olympians cycled up.

Until a few months ago, Kevin had not been near a pushbike, but an injury prevented him running the London Marathon for the first time in eight years and he needed to do something to maintain his fitness.

Kevin said: "I have really enjoyed the different training regime and I'm looking forward to the event. The funds I have raised so far will make it all worthwhile as it will help the village get the facilities it deserves."
