WHEN Paula Radcliffe MBE, a record breaking English long-distance runner, heard that a Launceston man will again be tackling ten marathons in ten days, she advised him 'If you can get your head around it, the feet will follow'. Davey Green met Paula Radcliffe a few weeks ago at the Brighton Marathon. He told her that he was repeating the challenge, organised by Brathay Trust, to raise money to help vulnerable young people. With 91 marathons already notched up, the 45 year old runner is also hoping to join the 100 Marathon Club after he crosses the finishing line on day nine. From tomorrow (Friday) and until Sunday, May 18, Davey and 14 others will daily run 26.2 miles in an anti-clockwise direction circumnavigating England's longest lake, Windermere. The route, crowned the UK's most scenic marathon by Runner's World magazine last year, takes in the honey-pot sites of Hawkshead, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside. The 10in10 marathon is described by adventurer and extreme survival expert Bear Grylls as 'an epic challenge that will require an epic strength of mind'. In its eighth year, only 69 people in the world have completed it. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
