Ross 2nd XI produced a terrific all round performance to defeat Oldswinford & Stourbridge Social by 79 runs at The Park in their latest Worcestershire League encounter.

Batting first on a very dry wicket the Ross batsmen had to contend with a strong wind blowing directly across the ground, which the OSS bowlers used to good effect in the opening exchanges. However, openers Richard Jeffryes and Tony Leslie made a solid start before Jeffryes was bowled by Robertson, who also accounted for Brandon Lilly courtesy of a stumping to leave Ross at 40-2.

Jim Lewis joined Leslie and the pair batted sensibly to ensure Ross continued to score at a good rate, the partnership reaching 50 before Lewis was lbw for 20. This brought debutant Allan Harris to the crease and he eased himself into the innings by rotating the strike allowing Leslie to bat serenely on, passing his previous top score for the club of 58, before the pair upped the tempo in the last ten overs of the innings. Both then cracked a number of boundaries which enabled Ross to close on 194-3 with Leslie still unbeaten on 84 and Harris on 42.

After tea, the Ross bowlers were quickly into their stride and Wayne Husbands' opening burst saw him claim two wickets for 20 before Lilly took a good catch at square leg off from the miserly Marcus Bailey (1-15) to give Ross a stranglehold on the game.

Tom Slater and Matthew Wall briefly threatened to bat OSS back into the contest with a stand of 35 before Ollie O'Neill dismissed Slater (23) thanks to a sharp leg side stumping by wicket keeper Lewis. The first over after the drinks break will always be remembered by Isla Kendall as she took her first ever senior league wicket (5-0-13-1) thanks to a close in catch by Tony Leslie. This was quickly followed by another success for O'Neill who finished with 2-19 from 6 overs.

Ross were now firmly in control. Harris was introduced and enjoyed immediate reward thanks to another catch by Lilly before a brilliant pick up and throw by O'Neill into Lewis added to the impressive number of run outs achieved by the team this season. Not to be outshone by the other academy players, Charlie Cole then produced a fantastic medium paced leg break to bowl a bamboozled batsman around his legs before Harris dismissed last man Penn to complete the emphatic win as OSS were all out for 115 – A performance that will live long in the memory for a number of the Ross players.
