BUDE CATS — Community Action Through Sport — in conjunction with Budehaven Community School and Raven Surf School has just completed its fourth 'Urban Surf' Course for 15 young people. Initially the young people (who had been highlighted by teachers, youth workers or police) were invited to attend a surf session to see if a) they enjoyed surfing and would want to continue and b) to be observed by the coaches in regard to attitude should they wish to commit to the programme. The programme commenced with 15 young people and was run over an eight-week period, which consisted of eight two-hourly sessions from May to July. This was held on Thursday evenings; all equipment including wetsuits, boards and rash vests were provided by Mike Raven and Bude Surf Life Saving Club kindly gave us the use of their changing rooms. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
