THE Officers of the Day, Toby Tobias and Ellie Tucker, were convinced that Jane Anderson and Adam Hilton were going to cross the start line before the horn blew, so close were they to it. But no, both got away to an excellent start with Jane rounding the first buoy in the lead, a lead she kept throughout the race.
Behind this pair, a good deal of pushing and shoving had taken place at the start and a number of penalty turns were carried out. As a result the next round Inlet buoy were Annie Quartermaine’s Laser and Nicky Buckett’s Bosun, Brian Pollard crewing. Nicky continued to sail an excellent race, finishing sixth on the water and second when the handicaps were applied.
The Lasers of Bob Sampson and James Pollard, after modest starts, sailed steadily through the fleet but hadn’t time to get far enough ahead to finish higher than fourth and fifth on handicap.

THE sun continued to shine, the wind veered a little further north and Sue Murray led the fleet on a starboard tack across the line before quickly tacking away towards Zebra.
Bob Sampson went towards the Devon bank after the start getting himself clean air which took him into the lead.
The wind at Inlet buoy, in the lee of the headland, had been tricky all day and a number of boats stalled as they tried to round the buoy, but the fleet of sixteen boats paraded across the Lake going towards West in the sunshine was a fine sight.
For most of the race Paul Whybrow led a trio a trio of squabbling boats, two Solos and a Streaker, until Robin Spiller hit Inlet buoy and dropped back.
The front running Lasers changed order a good deal, Jane Anderson eventually getting past Bob Sampson and Nathan Pollard’s race in the Topper got him third place on Handicap.
