Loughor 45 pts.

Tenby United RFC 12

Tenby United, sponsored by G. D. Harries (main sponsor), FBM Holidays, Molson Coors, Kiln Park and Andrew Price travelled to Loughor for the final match of the season.

In blustery conditions, Loughor set off with a blistering start and within three minutes their open-side flanker, Tom Davies, had scored from a driving maul. They failed to convert the try.

However, Tenby replied immediately after a series of passing movements which led to a well-worked try by flanker Andrew Cooke. Again the conversion was missed.

In the next 20 minutes, Loughor turned on the power, with further tries scored by their left winger Tom Stevens, centre Peter Smiriglia and second rower Marc O'Kelly. All three tries were converted by their stand-off, Tom Davies, leaving Tenby trailing 26-5.

After this bonus point onslaught by Loughor, Tenby launched a series of concerted attacks, leading to a number of penalties in Tenby's favour. Rather than kicking for goal, Tenby kicked for the corner, aiming to set up their own driving mauls.

Eventually, the referee brandished a yellow card to the Loughor blind-side forward, Ashley Davies, for persistent offside.

Loughor were at this stage under constant pressure and they were fortunate not to have a further yellow card. However, as a result of arguing with the referee, Tenby had Wyndham Williams yellow-carded.

At half-time, the score remained 26-5.

After the interval, Loughor regained the initiative with further tries from Smiriglia and fullback Banfield (2), taking the scoreline to 45-5.

Tenby then brought on several substitutes and continued to press, eventually resulting in a good try by prop Rob Clark, which was converted by Toby Smith.

The final scoreline was 45-12 in Loughor's favour.

With Loughor being the final fixture of 2014-15, the Seasiders have now ended their first season in division one west. They will have taken a lot of positives from the season and will be recruiting over the summer and looking forward to next season.

Despite not repeating the celebrations and successes of this time last year, the Seasiders can be proud of the fact they have come through a difficult period and remained in the division. The season has produced selection headaches every week for the United's coaches and management, with several key players regularly unavailable due to being pulled into clubs in the higher divisions, but, on the plus side, it has meant that several current Youth players have now gained good experience of division one rugby after being called into the squad - namely Jordan Asperassa, Luke Conbeer, Ethan Morgan and Dan Allen. They have all acquitted themselves well.
