Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club race report — June 7

Sailboat Race 8

UNDER a blue sky with white fluffy clouds and a cool northerly breeze, fourteen boats headed for the start line.

John Duncalf was first away closely followed by the rest of the fleet.

A long series of tacks took all the boats to Far buoy, rounded first by James Pollard followed by Jane Anderson but Jane overtook James on the downwind run to Middle buoy — Jane then proceeded to open up the lead. James had a rig failure but still managed to finish the race.

Nathan Pollard led the Topper fleet over the finish line.

Toby Tobias and Ellie Tucker in their Bosun finished ahead of Simon Veal and Nicky Clay in their Bosun. Linda Spiller did well in her Comet finishing fourth over the line but seventh on handicap.

There was little change in the order from then to the end of the race with Jane a clear leader from James at the end.

Gosling Shield, Ladies Race and Junior Helm

SEVENTEEN boats jostled for a good start and approached the start en masse eager to be away for the afternoon race, sharing the lake with paddle boarders and the gig racers.

The breeze had freshened and Linda Spiller got away ahead of the fleet. James Pollard and Jane Anderson battled together from the gun.

Again Jane Anderson was the first round the Far mark followed by Nathan Pollard. There was a battle between Roger Heasman and Paul Whybrow going down the lake to the Dam buoy but Paul overtook with an overlap to take the inside line round the mark to unfortunately capsize later in the race and retire.

Phil Tucker entered his first race at the lake and did well with his crew Kevin who had his first taste of sailing but they retired after two laps.

Simon and Nicky finished ahead of Toby and Ellie in this race so one all to each Bosun.

Elliot Pomeroy led the Toppers in on the Gosling Shield but Nathan Pollard won the Junior Race.
