JANE Anderson, reduced to a Topper by strong and gusty winds, still led over the line at Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club's Sailboat 8 race on Sunday. Nathan Pollard followed, but Bob Sampson capsized and took longer than usual to get back up. Jane endangered her lead by going round the wrong side of Home 2, and doubling back. This put her not far ahead of Nathan Pollard at the end of the lap. Adam Hilton and crew in the Otter-sailed Bosun were having a rather more comfortable time in the blasts than the single-handed sailors and Alan and John in the Enterprise (who eventually retired, shaken, stirred, but still the right way up). Bob's Laser ripped through the field, eventually overtaking Jane towards the end of lap two, while still being threatened late on by Elliot Pomeroy. Of course, on handicap what you needed was a Topper — anything else got demoted a couple of places. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
