Cornwall Cricket County Division One
Callington v Gorran
DESPITE the dodgy weather forecast, those who turned up to Moores Park, Callington, were treated to a game with 558 runs and three centuries.
Aidan Libby decided to bat first, but Callington lost Alex Robinson with 29 on the board, bowled by Jamie Tabb for 11. James Long was going well, and he and Joe White added 30, with White only contributing four runs before driving one to Andrew Grant at cover off James Tomlinson.
However, that was the last wicket to fall, with Murray Workman following up his 236 at St Gluvias with another fantastic 150 from just 91 deliveries, including 12 fours and 10 sixes.
Long also registered a fine century with a knock of 116 from 142 balls which included 15 fours and a six. Both batsmen were undefeated as with one eye on the clouds, Libby declared after 45.1 overs with the home score on 292-2.
Gorran had put 35 on the board when Lucas Lowe-Houghton snicked one to keeper Joe White off Jim Shorten, and the same combination got rid of Tomlinson four runs later.
Opener Rhys Daniel and skipper Robin Kendall then took the score to 86 when Daniel was bowled by Workman for 44.
Kendall was the danger man, and his 50 came in 52 balls, but he wasn't satisfied with that. Despite losing four cheap wickets at the other end, Kendall's hard hitting took him to 105 from just 81 balls, including 17 fours and two sixes.
By now there was heavy drizzle, and Libby had turned to young Tom Hughes' spinners, and he bowled Kendall with the first ball of his third over.
The score was now 194-8 and in normal conditions Callington would have been home and hosed, but with the wet ball, the Gorran tail wagged manfully, with last pair Joe Semple with 26, and Jamie Tabb with 41 adding 67 for the last wicket, with only 26 still needed.
What with the greasy ball and the added tension, Callington had fluffed a couple of chances, but finally Tabb was run out after 48.4 overs, leaving Callington winners by 26 runs. Shorten and Workman bagged two wickets each, with two for Robinson.
Callington (20 points) beat Gorran (six) by 26 runs.
