Monthly report for June
CONGRATULATIONS are in order for Steven Clifton on his promotion to a 2 Star Regional Master by the English Bridge Union (EBU).
The EBU have a national grading scheme which rates all its members on current form with ‘Ace’ being the highest rank and ‘Two’ the lowest.
For the first time ever, Bude can boast of four members — Clifton, Jane Koldewey, Paul Creighton and Alan Biggs — who are ranked as ‘Queen’.
Bude were one of five clubs that took part in the Cornwall Charity Simultaneous Pairs event on Tuesday, June 19.
There were three Bude pairs in the top ten in the county with Bude’s heat winners Mary Hicks and James Sim coming 5th, Mike Newman and Christine Theobald 7th and Linda Ashworth and Steven Clifton 10th.
There were also creditable performances by Chris Nichols and Jane Koldeway and Bob and Ann Bennett who finished in the top third of the field. The club would like to congratulate them all on their efforts.
Multiple winners at evening bridge sessions during the month were Chris Nichols, who partnered both Jane Koldewey and Steven Clifton to success.
Steven also won with David Clarke. Other winning partnerships were Neil and Sarah Trenaman, Alan Biggs and Paul Creighton, Bob and Ann Bennett and Mary Hicks and James Sim.
Maureen Fallows and Alison Osborne won together on two Wednesday afternoon sessions while other winning partnerships were Heather Brewster and Chris Nichols and Richard Dawson and Sheila Dailly.
