JULY and August brought a healthy tennis competition programme in Cornwall, and there has been good participation by junior’s and adults a like in local competition and beyond.
The Launceston Summer Open saw a healthy entry in all events and was particularly well attended by players from all over Cornwall and Devon, with a few travelling from a little further a field in this one day event.
Friday, August 14 was hardly a summers day but it did not deter the players. The morning saw the under 10s and events in mini tennis for players in red, orange and green competition.
Ruben Mudd was a home winner in the under eights which was the red event. Poppy Kirkman (Wadebridge) showed she is one to watch finishing as a runner up in the orange competition. Chris Denton from Bodmin was by far the strongest entry in the greens and won all of his matches without being troubled.
George Cockrell (Wadebridge) was the junior boys winner and Charlotte Halls from the host club clinched the girls event.
Head coach James Brobin was very pleased with the event and fellow coach at Launceston and head coach at RS tennis in Bude, Rachael Stacey were very pleased with participation in the three summer opens they organised at Wadebridge, Launceston and Bude.
The Bude competition saw another successful day although participation was not as good as it had been in Launceston.
