Tenby Golf Club reached the semi-final of the Dyfed Golfing Union Team Knock-Out in 2014.

However, this year, they were comprehensively beaten at home by a strong Newport Links team in the first round last Monday evening.

The weather was perfect and the course was in an excellent overall condition as complimented by the Newport players who are now looking forward to the league match in Tenby in July.

Three Tenby pairs were hammered six and five - Steve Sutcliffe and Loz Phillips by Paul Thomas and John Davies in the top game, Roger Schooling and Neil Webb to Richard Payne and Jerry Carroll and Nick Rogers and Tony Key to Owen Dugan and Carl Woodhouse.

Darren Thomas and Terry Davies fought hard to defeat the experienced Dai Linquist and Richard Bellars by two and one, but Paul Jenkins and Chris Beecher faded to a two down defeat to Nicky Davies and Mark Webb.

Tenby's best result was by Neil Thomas and Dai Cope who comfortably beat Dai Owen and Viv Griffiths by five and four.

In the final rubber, Ian Thomas and Nick Allen finished strongly to defeat Jim Penfold and Richard Bell by two and one, albeit it was all in vain.

The Tenby side can now concentrate on league fixtures for the remainder of the 2015 season.

The next two matches are at home, ie. Aberystwyth tomorrow (Saturday) and Glynhir B the following week, June 6.
