THE Launceston based backgammon club, ‘Lansongammon’, held their first mini-tournament of 2016 on January 26 at the Pint & Post in St Giles.

The club are the only one of its kind in Cornwall, and they meet every Wednesday at 7.30pm in the Pint & Post and all are welcome.

The tournament was won by Paul Shaw with Lauren Oliver coming a close second.

At the end of the evening a special prize was given out for the most improved player of 2015, and it was duly awarded to ten-year-old Reuben Oliver, who up until a year ago hadn’t even heard of backgammon and now he is a competent player.

Oliver, from Okehampton, comes to the backgammon club with his mum and as well as being presented with a certificate he also won a Star Wars stationary set.

He is pictured right showing off his prize.
