Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association

The main season may be over but the volunteers who ensure the association's functions throughout the year are busy preparing for the visit of the England squad to Carnmoggas to play Cornwall on Sunday, September 20, marking the start of the CCSMBA's 25th anniversary season.

The association has enjoyed arguably one of its most successful seasons, topping the South West group of the Inter County Championship; a National Championship win for four of the county's youngest bowlers – Karen Watson, Ed Dyer, Luke Jolly and Tom Westlake – and Holmans following up last year's win in the ESMBA/TLH Top Club with the runners-up spot this year.

Four players from the county have been in the England national squad – Peter Hore, Elise Daniell, Nigel Nicholls and Dave Studden, and several players have also competed in the Short Mat Players tour events as far afield as Sweden.

The England team travelling to Cornwall for a squad weekend is a strong indication of how well regarded the county now is on the national scene.

Success, however, has had a significant impact on the operating costs of the CCSMBA and the association is seeking financial support to further develop the sport in the county and to at least, in part, meet some of the costs of playing in national competitions, in particular travel.
