SIR James Smith's Community School went Cornish Pirates crazy recently when players and coaches from the club visited to give the Year 7 students a taste of professional rugby player life.

Subject leader for PE at the school, Matt Dyson, said afterwards: "With the school motto of Aspiration, Ambition, Achievement, the Pirates certainly inspired the students throughout and departed, having created a memorable day for all."

Students were treated to a carousel of workshops. These included a coaching masterclass from Pirates Community Coach Eleanor Harding, and Pirates players Kyle Moyle and Matt Evans.

Next up was a stadium building task. Students learned about the ambition of the club to build a new stadium, and set about designing and building their own prototypes, ably assisted by Pirates players Adam Jamieson and Jake Parker.

A further coaching session also took place, delivered by a member of the PE staff, and the students completed an ICT task, which involved researching the Cornish Pirates and creating a poster presentation.
