TWENTY-NINE teams took part in this year's Pro Am event at Trethorne Golf Club, with each team being comprised of four payers, one of whom was a South West based Club Professional.

The event is effectively played as two competitions combined. One for the competing teams led by their professional and playing for valuable prizes and one for the individual professionals playing for money.

The weather was challenging with intermittent showers falling from the overcast sky, along with significantly strong gusting winds.

All competitors except ladies were required to play off the far back blue championship tees, and it soon became clear that the day was going to provide a tough test of skill and stamina.

As a direct result of the application of a lot of hard work and technical skill by Trethorne's Head Greenkeeper Justin Austin and his small but dedicated team, the course itself was in exceptional condition — a fact which was emphasised during the prize winners speech made by Club Professional Paul Hendrickson of the Plymouth Golf Centre.

Paul's exceptional score of a one under par 70 enabled him to deservedly win the tournament.

The team prize was as always hard fought with four teams playing great golf. It was won with an outstanding score of 16 under by the team representing Southcoast Sundecks Ltd. and comprising of Simon Schofield, Andrew Froude, Chris Turner and led by Professional Michael Watson from Wessex Golf Centre — another fine golfer and regular money winner.
