LIFTON-based Nishikan Shotokan Karate Club held an open course on Saturday, October 26, and were lucky enough to have two sixth dan black belt instructors visiting from Telford and Watford to teach.
The students were put through their paces with various kumite (fighting) techniques as well as kata (sequences of moves originating in Okinawa which are performed individually and represent a series of defences and attacks, including throws and locks).
Launceston Karate Club train at the Lifton Community Centre on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm. Beginners and others wanting to restart training are welcome to come along for a trial lesson.
The instructor is Roger Carpenter 8th dan black belt, chief instructor for the UK of Skotokan Karate International and the highest ranked karate black belt in Devon and Cornwall.
