Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club race

report — August 9

Tamar 5

UNLUCKY for some 13 boats started the morning’s Tamar race in apparently light winds.

Paul Whybrow was first over the line, soon followed by Bob Sampson’s RS200 with new crew Shea Hennessey.

During lap one James Pollard pulled away from Paul and Bob who remained hot on his heels. The Solo of Adam Hilton and the club Bosun sailed by the Commodore and his crew Cilla were in equally hot pursuit.

From the race box all seemed quiet and uneventful, however furious whistling sent the safety boat to the hidden waters in the west where a bunch of boats on opposing tacks had upset each other going round West Red buoy.

Adeney Pooler’s Graduate turned turtle and the Commodore’s Bosun required a massive bailing operation. Adam Hilton, the main cause of the mayhem, got away scot free and leading the bunch.

James was serene in the lead on the water and on handicap.
