LAUNCESTON were taught a harsh lesson away at Cambridge, as they lost 109-0 in a one-sided affair.
Cambridge put on a complete attacking display in the first half, one that really displayed the inexperience in Launceston’s side at the moment, but also why Cambridge are National league 2 South leaders.
After twelve first half tries, the score stood at 78-0. After the break, the Cornish All Blacks did show some excellent fighting spirit, and spent the third quarter of the match camped in the Cambridge 22.
They failed to find the breakthrough, but Launceston coach Jimmy Tucker was keen to highlight the few positives after the game. “To be up against a top side like Cambridge, we were fully aware beforehand that it would be a really tough game. I’ve just given the boys some credit for the way they played for 17 minutes after the break, because to come in 78-0 down, and then go out and keep it to 0-0 for a time, that’s one positive we can take.”
Launceston host Bishops Stortford next Saturday and Tucker said: “We know we’re relegated, but I still want us to battle. Battle and improve. We’ve just got to try and build some real team spirit and give our all for the club.”
