Cornwall Cup
Launceston U14s 12
Famlouth U14s 7
HAVING met Falmouth on their own turf before the Christmas break, Falmouth travelled up to Launceston for the first round of the Cornwall Cup Competition at the weekend.
The two sides knew going into the match that it had all the potential of being a tight contest, however, the hosts started well and made their mark early by scoring a try within five minutes through Keiron Sargent. It went unconverted.
Launceston continued to dominate the first half exchanges. Josh Mannino had a good break but was pulled up by Falmouth’s backs, but their good play was soon rewarded with another Sargent try under the posts giving Scott Drew his first conversion of the game.
With the score at 12-0 at the start of the second half, Falmouth were keen to get back into the game and showed confidence in trying to regain some ground. Play was very much on an even keel between the two sides, however, in the end Falmouth were able to break away and scored a try and converted.
Falmouth were now grabbing every opportunity to put the pressure on the home side and this was the case for 20 minutes of the second half. Launceston were constantly defending near their try line but managed to hold off Falmouth until the final whistle.
A fine display by the hosts with great effort and excellent work from the scrum, more of which will be required as they progress in the competition.
Launceston face Newquay in the next round at home in a couple of weeks.
