WITH the 2019/20 season starting this weekend, Camelford RFC’s preparations both on and off the pitch, have seen a massive change over the summer.
Lee Grimes is the new club captain with Martyn Baker stepping up to chairman, with the tragic loss of club president Nic Osborne also in the minds of all members.
Camelford’s new home just up from the old pitch at Lane End has been worked on extensively to get it ready for Saturday’s Tribute Cornwall Two league opener with Stithians. A new gateway has been made to allow for better access into the field. A long with post repairs and grass cutting it has been a long, hard slog, but the pitch will be ready.
Lee Grimes, club captain, added: “Myself and the team are really looking forward to the season ahead and are really excited and can’t wait to get going on Saturday.
“We are hoping that all clubs in our league have plenty of numbers so all games are competitive and can keep the flow of rugby going across the county.
“Our aim for the upcoming season is to play some exciting rugby and to finish in the top two positions of the league.
“Pre-season training has gone well but a few more numbers to training would have ideal but I understand that all players have a family life and this must come first. The current climate means that players have less time to commit their time to the best sport in the world.”
“Finally with this being a Rugby World Cup year, if any potential player wants to have a run out you are all welcome to come and join in at training at 6.30pm every Tuesday, and maybe try your hand in a match.
“Despite the setbacks of the past couple of years, Camelford RFC forges on and will continue to forge ahead.”
