THE U15s travelled to Bideford RFC last Wednesday night to compete in the North Devon Rugby Cup Final against Park School of Barnstaple.

The boys had worked extremely hard to reach this stage of the competition, comfortably beating West Buckland and Torrington in the quarter and semi respectively on their way to the final and were determined to end the season on a high.

Shebbear started brightly and controlled possession in the early stages, allowing them to break the gain-line and continue moving forward. The early pressure was rewarded as influential Captain Alessandro Aliberti crossed the line for the opening try of the game. Shebbear continued to dominate proceedings for the rest of the half, defending exceptionally well and looking threatening when attacking, however, this pressure was only converted into one more score as Aliberti crossed for a second time.

The boys knew that the first points of the second half could be crucial and the outstanding Stuart Williams delivered this after an elusive break.

This score seemed to take the wind out of the opposition’s sails, allowing Shebbear more space to play their expansive style of rugby.

Three further tries were added by the impressive Will Blee, Will Cunningham who controlled the game well from outside half and finally a third from Aliberti, completing a superb hat-trick to round off an impressive 36-7 win.

It was an outstanding performance from the team and no less than their progress over the last two seasons had merited.

The very proud coaching team wished to pass on their huge congratulations to all the boys who represented Shebbear College in the competition.
