CRFU Duchy Plate final at Truro RFC

Launceston seconds 26

Camborne seconds 25

TWO late tries from Charlie Wevill and Dave Parish helped Launceston seconds mount an astonishing comeback to win the CRFU Duchy Plate at Truro on Bank Holiday Monday.

Camborne led 8-0 right up until the stroke of half-time when a converted try from Aiden Jacob and a conversion by Tom Sandercock meant Launceston went in just one point behind.

Just two minutes after the restart, Ben Tharme went over after a fine break, which was again converted by Sandercock.

When Launceston had the ball they managed to score, but Camborne piled on the pressure, forcing Launceston to defend for long periods.

But with a lot of stoppages, Camborne went on to score three tries before the hour mark, although crucially, only one was converted.

Launceston never gave up and they hit back with an unconverted try by winger Charlie Wevill in the 77th minute before Parish crashed over with just seconds to go.

Full-back Rich Jasper kept his cool with a fine conversion to seal the win.

Manager, Mike Haines, said: "It was a fully deserved win. The guys kept their cool with a limited number of players on the bench in what was a very stop-start game, which disrupted our play.

“It was very nailbiting for all the supporters who came to watch us."
